Last day of classes tomorrow!

I cannot believe that it is finally over!

I have my last Maya test tomorrow!

After classes I have my Belize orientation :)

Then i might stay for one of the thesis defenses, because the grad school kids have some awesome ones!

I really want to go back Friday for more of them!

Thursday night I am going to a friends art show and I am incredibly excited about it!

My last…

Archaeological method and theory class is tomorrow :(

I am so sad, I actually am doing great in the class,

Met like 6 new and good friends in it.

Had an amazing professor who I can’t wait to work with again,

And I enjoyed all the material.

Definitely my favorite class in college.

NAGPRA

Native American Graves Protection and Repatriation Act (1990):

  • The intent of the NAGPRA legislation is to address long-standing claims by federally recognized tribes for the return of human remains and cultural objects unlawfully obtained from prehistoric, historic, former, and current Native American homelands. Interpretation of human and indigenous rights, prehistoric presence, cultural affiliation with antiquities, and the return of remains and objects can be controversial and contested. (wiki)

I am having a debate on this in my Archaeological method and theory class on Thursdays, and it envokes so many feelings in me.

As someone who wants to be an Indigenous (Mesoamerica) and Native North American archaeologist, I find many likes and dislikes with NAGPRA and where it looks like it is going.

It’s good, it’s bad, it’s useful, it’s overly-specific, it’s culturally appreciative, it’s a downturn to some histories, it’s just a mess to try to sort out.

And I have to debate on aspects of it I am not quite fond of which makes it hard.

Oh the woes of a young Anthropologist.

Should be a fun debate nonetheless.

If any one knows any good recent articles, let me know!

So happy about my classes in the fall!
Introduction to Native American and Indigenous Studies
The Archaeology of Colonialism in Native North America
Forensic Anthropology
Introductory Spanish 1
Theory of Socio-cultural Anthropology
:) and a directed study based off of the work I do in Belize.
Oh…
Anddddd
Monday, Wednesday and Friday during my 5 hour class break I am working with another professor in his lab! :) Well I assume unless he runs out of stuff I could do! :) But he is pretty sure he will have stuff for me to work on :)

Adding a minor, and killing myself in the fall.

Adding the Native American and Indigenous studies minor.

It’s going to be the perfect addition for getting into Graduate school.

I am now taking an eight am class, Monday, Wednesday and Friday.

I was only taking class on Tuesday and Thursday, so this sucks a little.

I am going to see if I can get work in the Archaeology labs in the Fall.

I am taking 5 real classes, which is 16 credits (The spanish classes here are 4 credits) and doing a directed study for probably  3 credits

19 credits -_-, oh lord.

I love

when my Professor tells me about Belize.

We just walk out of class, and across campus talking about how great it is.

She tells me fun stories all the time.

I am so fucking excited for field school.

It’s now official! I am accepted into field school! I feel incredibly happy, it feels so much nicer now, knowing it’s a 100% thing.

That awkward moment…

My professor I am going to Belize with is Lauren Sullivan.

She is actually a huge deal in Maya archaeology and she has done lots of work, and she is a Maya ceramicist.

Naturally she is cited a lot and has great work.

Every one of my sources for my research paper due for her, has her cited, and it is all the information I need.

I have a  great connection with her, and she knows I am going to do Maya archaeology, so that is pressure enough to do great on my Maya paper.

(besides the fact I am going to field with her, the next two summers)

And now I have to make sure I quote and source all of her work correctly, and hope to have non-conflicting views on anything she put.

-_-, extra pressure, how lovely.

Great day :)

I never posted it but my Maya professor emailed me and I got a 92 on the test she said.

I get to class today and she said she added a 5 point curve and I was like-

“Does that include what you emailed me, or added on top of that?”

And she said-

“No add it on top” (Thank you all the people who failed miserably haha)

I got a 97 then <3

AND

The field school application for Belize is finally available.

Great mix of events. :)

I am so excited, it’s starting to feel so real now :)
